Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery
History:
Oral and maxillofacial surgery is a branch of dentistry that works to advance education, research and treatment in the field of diagnosis and treatment of diseases and anomalies of the oral and maxillofacial region.
In this regard, the faculty members of the Department constantly seek to improve the levels of their education and research, as well as those of assistants and students to the desired standard, and to train professionals who will be able to play an essential role in improving community health. The Department puts a further focus on research and considers it an integral part of the field.
For this purpose, the Department intends to do its utmost by conducting basic, applied and interdisciplinary research in order to develop knowledge and fulfill the University's missions.
Perspective:
We seek to become a pioneer in the next few years in education, research, and production and transfer of knowledge by improving the scientific, research and therapeutic levels of the Department up to international standards, and to be known as a Department that provides the best educational, research and diagnostic services to dental students, particularly local ones.
Vision:
1) Applying scientific information to detect and remove unmaintainable teeth and follow up the treatment; and
2) Training patients in oral hygiene after tooth removal and following up the treatment.
3) Training professionals in specialized and general courses with cognitive, attitudinal and practical skills for tooth detection, treatment of oral abscesses, removal of remaining roots, treatment of jaw fractures, removal of impacted wisdom teeth, closure of the arch bar, treatment of odontogenic tumors and lesions and recognition of medicines; and
4) Empowering students and university teachers in up-to-date scientific findings and conducting basic and applied research through retrieving and criticizing articles.
Research priorities:
1) Investigating new techniques and materials in oral and maxillofacial surgery using animal studies and clinical trials; and
2) Evaluating the outcomes of maxillofacial treatments and providing appropriate and modern treatment methods with greater stability
